Minnesota Doctors Strike for Autonomy as Allina Health Talks Stall
About 150 doctors at Allina Health’s Mercy Hospital campuses in Coon Rapids and Fridley began a four-day strike after three years of failed contract talks with Doctors Council-SEIU, seeking higher pay and more physician input on patient care. Allina says some progress has been made but any deal must address rising costs. The dispute coincides with a seven-day hospice nurses’ strike and follows Allina’s looming merger with Sutter Health; non-union doctors continue to treat patients and hospitals remain operational while coverage is arranged.
