Ex-Kentucky athlete pleads guilty to manslaughter in infant's death
A former University of Kentucky student-athlete, Laken Snelling, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the death of her newborn son, whose body was found wrapped in a towel inside a trash bag in a closet. The Kentucky Medical Examiner ruled the baby was born alive and died by asphyxia of undetermined means. Snelling admitted she deprived the baby of oxygen, hid the evidence, and lied to roommates; sentencing is set for Oct. 16, with up to 10 years for the manslaughter charge.
