Hodding Carter III, Multi-Faceted Public Figure, Passes Away at 88
Hodding Carter III, a journalist and Democratic Party reformer who championed civil rights for Black Americans in Mississippi during the 1960s, and later became the face of the U.S. government during the Iranian hostage crisis, has died at the age of 88. He was also a national television commentator, press critic, university lecturer, and author. Carter was the son of journalist Hodding Carter Jr., who won a Pulitzer Prize for editorials calling for racial moderation in the old segregated South.
