South Carolina Republicans propose death penalty for women who have abortions
South Carolina Republicans have proposed the South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act, which would subject women who undergo abortions to the state's homicide laws, including the death penalty. The bill defines a "person" as an "unborn child at every stage of development from fertilization until birth" and provides exceptions only if the mother's life is in danger. The bill has not yet been considered by the state's House Judiciary Committee.
