I Am Maximus seals Mullins' three-year Grand National dominance at Aintree
Two-time Grand National winner I Am Maximus stormed to victory at Aintree, giving Willie Mullins a third straight win in the iconic race and making him the first trainer since Vincent O’Brien to win three in a row; JP McManus extended his lead as owner with four Grand National wins, and I Am Maximus became the first top-weight (11st 12lbs) to win since Red Rum in 1974. Jockey Paul Townend praised the horse’s engine, while the race opened dramatically with Nick Rockett unseating Grangeclare West and Panic Attack falling, with 16 of 34 finishers.
