Navy SEAL Training Under Scrutiny After Seaman's Death
Ten people, including two high-ranking Navy SEALs, may face prosecution for the training death of Kyle Mullen, who died from pneumonia after completing the infamous "Hell Week." An investigation found "failures across multiple systems" led to Mullen's death and hospitalization of three other SEAL candidates. The report cited an inadequate medical program and an increase in training intensity, which produced an unusually high dropout rate. The commander of training, Capt. Brad Geary, and his immediate superior, Capt. Brian Drechsler, were singled out for their lack of oversight, along with the program's senior medical officer. All three men have since left their positions.
