Democrats Demand Answers from Musk on X's Opposition to Independent Research
Three Democratic lawmakers have written a letter to Elon Musk and X Corp. CEO Linda Yaccarino, expressing concerns about X's "hostile stance" towards independent research efforts. The lawmakers referenced X's recent lawsuit against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), which found an increase in hate speech on the platform after Musk's takeover. They accused X of resisting researchers' efforts to hold social media platforms accountable and conduct assessments in the public interest. The lawmakers also asked X to respond to a series of questions, including whether the company has successfully reduced hate speech and extremist content on its platform. X stated that CCDH has been spreading misleading information and that platform safety and free expression are not in conflict.
