Realtors Face $1.8 Billion Liability for Inflating Commissions
A jury in Missouri has found the National Association of Realtors (NAR), HomeServices of America, and Keller Williams liable for nearly $1.8 billion in damages for conspiring to inflate commissions. The lawsuit covered home sales between April 2015 and June 2022. The NAR plans to appeal the liability finding, arguing that their rules serve the best interests of consumers and support market-driven pricing. An appeals process could take up to three years, and the losing party may attempt to have the case tried in court. Additionally, a new class-action lawsuit has been filed against real estate companies, including Douglas Elliman, Compass, and Redfin, alleging violations of antitrust laws.
