Tesla ends Solar Roof, leaving installers with six-figure losses
Tesla abruptly ends its Solar Roof program, stopping tile shipments and shifting to conventional solar panels. Over seven years the system saw only about 3,000 installations, far below Elon Musk's goals, and many certified installers spent hundreds of thousands on training, crews, and tooling, now facing six-figure losses as projects are halted or stranded. Tesla says it will honor existing warranties, but contractors worry about long-term service and parts; the move highlights the risk for building-integrated solar when a manufacturer withdraws support.
