Spanberger Intervenes in Dominion-NextEra Merger in Unprecedented Move
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger will formally seek intervenor status in the State Corporation Commission’s review of Dominion Energy’s $67 billion sale to NextEra Energy, an unprecedented step that lets the administration question the deal and push for lower electric bills, Virginia jobs, and continued support for local energy projects like offshore wind. The SCC retains final decision authority. If approved, the merger would create the largest U.S. electric utility, serving about 10 million customers across four states. Regulators in other states and federal agencies will also need to sign off.
