Troika Games developed a tech demo for a cancelled The Lord of the Rings game for Sierra in 2001. The game would have used an isometric viewpoint and 2D graphics with pre-rendered backgrounds, and would have been powered by the Arcanum Engine. Although Sierra liked the demo, they decided to pull all development of the game internally. The demo runs poorly, but may be of interest to retro LOTR fans.
