Cubs Add Braxton Garrett to Deepen Rotation
The Chicago Cubs are acquiring left-hander Braxton Garrett from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor leaguers Jonathon Long and Jace Beck. Garrett, a former No. 7 overall pick who flashed in 2022–23 but missed most of 2024–25 with a UCL tear, is healthy again and has posted solid Triple-A numbers this year. He’s controllable via arbitration for two more years (about $1.525 million in 2026) and could join Chicago’s rotation immediately or start the season in Triple-A Iowa, providing veteran depth behind a rotation that includes Gausman, Boyd, Imanaga, Assad, Peterson and Rea.
