US Ambassador Meets Jailed Wall Street Journal Reporter in Russia
The US ambassador to Russia, Lynne Tracy, has been allowed to meet with jailed American journalist Evan Gershkovich for the second time since his imprisonment. Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal reporter, is accused of espionage and has been held in Moscow's Lefortovo prison since March. The US, the Wall Street Journal, and Gershkovich deny the allegations. Tracy reported that Gershkovich is in good health and remains strong. The visit comes after a Moscow court rejected an appeal to free Gershkovich, which the US called extremely disappointing. The US has been pushing Russia for consular access and is also advocating for the release of another detained American, Paul Whelan.
