JPMorgan Settles Epstein Claims for $75 Million

JPMorgan Chase has agreed to pay $75 million to settle claims with the U.S. Virgin Islands that it facilitated the activities of Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender. The bank also reached a confidential settlement with James E. Staley, a former top banker who advocated for keeping Epstein as a client. This settlement comes after JPMorgan already agreed to pay $290 million to Epstein's victims in a class-action lawsuit. The bank had been accused of ignoring warning signs about Epstein's activities and choosing to look the other way. The settlement funds will go towards charitable causes in the U.S. Virgin Islands and supporting local victims of sex crimes.

JPMorgan's Epstein Ties Lead to Legal Reckoning and Document Disclosure.

A federal judge has ordered the Manhattan District Attorney's Office to turn over documents related to former JPMorgan executive James "Jes" Staley in response to a subpoena from the bank in ongoing federal lawsuits that allege JPMorgan enabled and benefited from Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking crimes. JPMorgan has asserted that Staley is the "powerful financial executive" not named in a victim's lawsuit. The prosecutor's office must turn over any records and statements provided by the anonymous woman to the DA's office on August 10, 2022, as well as any statements or records "provided by any individual identifying James 'Jes' Staley as an alleged witness or an alleged perpetrator of any sexual assault, sexual abuse, or other sex-related crime."
