Tragedy Strikes Prague University: 10 Lives Lost in Shooting
Ten people were killed and nine others were seriously injured in a shooting at Charles University in central Prague, Czech Republic. The shooter, who has not been identified, also died. The incident occurred on Jan Palach Square, adjacent to the Vltava River. The police have evacuated the Faculty of Arts building and sealed off the area. Shootings are rare in the country, and the prime minister has returned to Prague. Jan Palach, after whom the square is named, was a student who self-immolated in 1969 to protest the Soviet Union's invasion of Czechoslovakia.
