Outraged Tourist Calls Police Over $1,000 Seafood Restaurant Bill
A Japanese tourist visiting Singapore called the police after receiving a $1,000 bill at a seafood restaurant. Junko Shinba claimed she was not informed of the meal's cost beforehand and was surprised to find out that her Alaskan King Crab dish weighed nearly eight pounds. The restaurant defended itself, stating that they showed the entire crab to Shinba's group before preparation. After some discussion, Shinba's group received a discount of around $78, and her friend paid for the meal. Shinba reported the incident to the Singapore Tourism Board, which referred her case to the Consumers Association of Singapore.
