Brooklyn nurse Jiayi Zheng killed in hit-and-run near NYU Langone; driver at large
Jiayi Zheng, a 28-year-old nurse at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Sunset Park on Saturday morning. Zheng, who had just finished an overnight shift, was struck by a black Cadillac while crossing Third Avenue at 55th Street. The driver fled the scene and remains at large. The incident has reignited calls for safety improvements on Third Avenue, where 11 pedestrians and cyclists have died since 2014, including another NYU nurse in 2020. Police are seeking information from the public, and city officials have promised updates on a long-delayed roadway redesign.
