Derek Trucks Shreds Garcia’s Tiger Guitar as It Hits $11.56M at Auction
Jerry Garcia’s ornate Tiger guitar, a 1979 Doug Irwin creation that Garcia used for years, sold for $11.56 million at Christie’s as part of the Jim Irsay Collection. Derek Trucks performed with Tiger at the Beacon Theatre during his residency and says he doesn’t own the instrument, which was purchased by Bobby Tseitlin of Family Guitars to keep it in circulation and playable, continuing Garcia’s musical legacy.
