Man pleads guilty to felony incest charges.
Joel Koskan, a former South Dakota Senate candidate, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony incest and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Koskan was originally charged with felony child abuse for allegedly sexually abusing a family member since she was a child. The victim had been pressured not to report the abuse by Koskan and his family. She eventually reported the abuse in May 2022 and Koskan was arrested days before the election. The victim spoke at the hearing and said she wanted the truth. Koskan apologized for his actions and his lawyer requested community supervision and outpatient treatment. The judge sentenced Koskan to 10 years in prison and said it was society's duty to protect children.
