McConaughey Opts Out of The Last of Us Lead to Focus on Writing and Leadership
Matthew McConaughey revealed on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that he discussed but ultimately declined the lead role of Joel Miller in HBO's The Last of Us, saying it wasn’t for him at the time as he was focusing on writing and leadership opportunities; Pedro Pascal ultimately played Joel and earned Emmy nominations, while Mazin suggested the talks weren’t serious. McConaughey is now promoting his film The Rivals of Amziah King.
