Houston Writer John Nova Lomax Passes Away
John Nova Lomax, a seventh-generation Texan and fourth-generation documentarian, died at the age of 53. He was a writer for Houston Press, Texas Monthly, Houstonia, and Texas Highways, and wrote books on dive bars and crime in Houston. Lomax was known for his Sole of Houston series, where he walked hundreds of miles of Houston's sidewalks to present a panoramic view of the city. He had a nose for brilliant music made under the radar and was one of the first writers to laud the gifts of The Woodlands singer-songwriter Hayes Carll. Lomax leaves behind family and friends and a city that knows itself better for his having worked here.
