The craze began with college students from nearby Zhengzhou, prompting Kaifeng to initially encourage more cyclists by offering free entry to attractions. However, the influx caused severe traffic congestion, leading authorities to crack down on illegally parked bikes and stagger admissions to attractions. Traffic police also restricted cycle lanes temporarily to manage the situation.
