Tallahassee songwriter loses battle with brain cancer.
Kathryn Belle Long, a musician and teacher who wrote a love song for Tallahassee, has died at the age of 42 after a six-month battle with brain cancer. Long's song, "Tallahassee," won the 2018 Will McLean Best New Florida Song Contest and inspired a grassroots campaign to make it the official song for the city's bicentennial celebration next year. Despite her illness, Long performed one last time at the Suwanee Music Festival two weeks ago. Her boyfriend and bandmate, Mickey Abraham, said she was "kicking this thing's butt" before her sudden decline.
