Bend school shooter identified as former student; bystander father hailed for stopping rampage
A 16-year-old former student, Griffin J. John II, killed four people at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, on October 15 before being fatally shot by a bystander. Police confirmed the suspect used a pump-action shotgun and had approximately 44 rounds of ammunition. A teacher’s physical intervention and the actions of a father of two students at the school halted the attack. Two others remain hospitalized, and investigators are working to determine the motive and how the weapon was obtained.
