US States Struggle with Child Well-Being, Ranking Shows
New Mexico has been ranked as the worst state for child well-being in the US, according to the annual Kids Count report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The report analyzed the well-being of children and their families in all 50 states, with most of the data pulled from 2021, in the middle of the pandemic. However, New Mexico has seen some solid improvement since 2010, with a 20% decrease in child poverty rate, a 28% improvement in the number of kids graduating on time, and a 45% improvement in the number of kids without health insurance. The state has also launched some programs that could boost its ratings in the future.
