Bolivia deploys 3,500 troops to clear La Paz roadblocks as protests intensify
Bolivia dispatched about 3,500 soldiers and police to clear roadblocks around La Paz amid nationwide protests demanding President Rodrigo Paz's resignation. The operation, which began early Saturday, led to clashes, roughly 57 arrests, and reported deaths. Protests by miners, teachers, Indigenous groups and unions come amid an economic crisis, fuel shortages, and a government move away from subsidies and toward privatization. The demonstrations also pressured repeal of a controversial land reform, while the government emphasized humanitarian corridors to keep hospitals supplied.
