NPR joins RT and Xinhua as 'state-affiliated media' on Twitter.
Twitter has labeled National Public Radio (NPR) as a "US state-affiliated media" outlet, a designation that has traditionally applied to state-run media outlets in foreign autocracies. Twitter CEO Elon Musk shared the company’s guidance on state-affiliated media, defining it as outlets where the state exercises control over editorial content through financial resources, direct or indirect political pressures, and/or control over production and distribution. NPR's new label as a "state-affiliated" media source "seems accurate" according to Musk, but some of the publicly-funded media outlet's staff were not pleased with the label, calling it "wholly inaccurate and untruthful."
