Lashrecse Aird defeats Sen. Joe Morrissey in Virginia primary
Lashrecse Aird has won the Democratic primary for Virginia Senate's 13th District, defeating incumbent Joe Morrissey. Aird, a former delegate, lost her House of Delegates seat in 2021 but is now poised to return to the Virginia General Assembly. She will face Republican Eric Ditri in the Nov. 7 general election. Aird has promised to be a "firewall" for reproductive rights, push for public school and road repair funding, and fight for affordable health care and child care access if elected to the state Senate.
