Sturgeon, who purchased an AR-15, expressed his frustration in personal writings, stating that he wanted to make an impact and that the ease of obtaining a gun facilitated his actions. He also mentioned his battle with depression and criticized those in power, including the NRA. Sturgeon was shot dead by police during the rampage. Surviving victims and family members are pursuing legal action against the gun manufacturer.
