Mother of 6-year-old school shooter to surrender to police as Virginia lawmakers honor teacher shot by child.
The mother of the 6-year-old Virginia boy who shot his teacher will turn herself in to police after being charged with felony child neglect and recklessly leaving a firearm so as to endanger a child. Deja Taylor, who legally purchased the firearm that her son used in the shooting, faces up to six years in prison if she’s convicted of all the charges. Her lawyer said she will cooperate fully with law enforcement and turn herself in by the week’s end under an agreement with Newport News prosecutors. The teacher who was shot is suing the school for $40 million.
