Moscow Hospice Founder Arrested Over War-Misinformation Charges
Lida Moniava, founder of the Moscow-based Lighthouse hospice, was arrested and charged with spreading false information about Russia’s military; a Moscow court will decide on pre-trial detention, with a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison. Moniava has previously run aid operations for people fleeing the war, and the Lighthouse foundation suspended operations last September due to dwindling refugee numbers. She has faced prior detentions and a fine for “discrediting” the military, and she has refused to leave Russia, saying exile would harm critically ill children who rely on care.
