Cusk's 'Life of M' Sparks Controversy Over Portman-Like Character
Rachel Cusk’s new novel, 'Life of M,' has ignited a cultural dispute by portraying a fictional actress, M, in a way that closely mirrors the life and career of Natalie Portman. While Cusk has not confirmed the character is based on Portman, critics and fans note striking parallels, including Portman’s early fame, her role in 'Black Swan,' and her residence in Paris. The novel depicts M as emotionally hollow and performative, a portrayal that has reportedly upset Portman, who has championed Cusk’s work in the past. Neither party has publicly addressed the controversy, but the situation has become a major talking point in literary circles.
