"Alarming Findings: Rising Temperatures and Acidity Levels in Bermuda's Atlantic Ocean"
The Bermuda Atlantic Time-series Study (BATS) has revealed that the surface ocean in the subtropical North Atlantic Ocean near Bermuda has warmed by around 1°C over the past 40 years, with ocean acidity increasing and oxygen levels decreasing. The ocean is now 30% more acidic than it was in the 1980s, and the amount of oxygen available to aquatic organisms has decreased by 6%. These changes are attributed to the uptake of anthropogenic CO2 from the atmosphere. Long-term monitoring is crucial for understanding and predicting future shifts in ocean conditions.
