CMP clears path to sell 100k-plus surplus M14 rifles
The Civilian Marksmanship Program has won authorization to sell more than 100,000 surplus M14 rifles, marking the first time the CMP will offer M14s. The rifles were originally serialized as fully automatic and must be converted to permanent semi-automatic under a government-approved process. First sales are expected in early 2027 after CMP builds up inventory, with an approximate price of $2,000 per rifle and a two-rifle-per-buyer limit. The CMP has a long history dating to 1903 and privatized in 1996 to sell surplus military firearms.
