Weegar lands with Utah Mammoth in Flames deal for Maatta, Castagna, and picks
MacKenzie Weegar was traded from the Calgary Flames to the Utah Mammoth for defenseman Olli Maatta, forward prospect Jonathan Castagna, and three second-round picks in the 2026 NHL Draft (two of which came from the Rangers and Senators). Weegar, under an eight-year, $50 million contract, has 21 points in 60 games this season and is expected to join Utah in 4–10 days due to visa processing. Maatta has one assist in 22 games for the Mammoth this season, Castagna is a Cornell forward with 32 points in 29 games, and Calgary sits 12 points out of the West’s second wild-card spot while Utah holds the first wild-card. Utah GM Bill Armstrong called Weegar a veteran puck-mover and leader who will help the team take the next step.
