Federal immigration raid rattles Northeast Memphis as officials distance from operation
An early Sunday multi-agency operation by Homeland Security Investigations and ICE on Macon Road in Northeast Memphis prompted MPD to provide traffic control; MPD says it was not involved in planning or arrests and there were no injuries or property damage. Mayor Paul Young stressed MPD’s limited role. Advocacy group Vecindarios 901 claims more than 100 people were detained, calling it the largest immigration raid in Memphis history, while the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition condemned the nighttime detentions and urged due process.
