32-Inch Mega Mullet DH Test: Do Bigger Wheels Buy Time?
A test converts a Scott Gambler DH bike to an MX+ setup with a 32-inch front wheel and 29-inch rear to compare against a standard 29/27.5 configuration. On Cypress Park tracks, the MX+ runs posted faster lap times, driven by improved rollover and grip, but came with handling tradeoffs from altered geometry, reduced fork travel, and rider fatigue. The result suggests 32-inch wheels can offer real speed advantages in downhill racing, but would require new frame geometry and components before broader adoption.
