The Battle for Bakhmut: Ukraine's Risky Strategy.
After eight months of fighting, both Russian and Ukrainian forces are fatigued as they continue to fight over the ruins of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine. Western officials report that Russia has made slow progress in capturing the town, and that both sides are exhausted. Despite being encircled by Russian forces, Ukraine has refused to withdraw from Bakhmut and instead vows to reinforce and defend it. Ukraine's defense ministry is preparing for a counteroffensive, but will only launch it when they have sufficient armor, tanks, and artillery rounds.
