Jay Maisel, a master photographer whose moody portrait of Miles Davis at the Apollo became the Kind of Blue album cover, died at 95 in Brooklyn. Over a long career he captured dramatic images—from coal miners lit in eerie glow to the Statue of Liberty in mist—and he famously lived in and later transformed a Brooklyn bank he bought for $102,000. His death was due to cancer, according to his daughter Amanda Maisel.
