Multiple Suicide Bombers Target Somali Soldiers, Leaving Dozens Dead
A suicide bomber targeted a military training academy in Mogadishu, Somalia, killing at least 25 soldiers and injuring over 40 others. Al-Shabab, the Somalia-based affiliate of al-Qaida, claimed responsibility for the attack. The Somali military, under pressure to assume security responsibility as the African Union force withdraws, has been conducting offensives against al-Shabab to regain control of extremist-held territory and dismantle their financial network.
