Austin Council Candidate Freed After Riot Charge Linked to ICE Protest
Misael Ramos, a candidate for Austin’s District 1 City Council seat, was released from Travis County Jail on Saturday after being arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The arrest followed a protest against the shooting of Wilber Garces Perez by an ICE officer. Ramos was charged with participating in a riot, a Class B misdemeanor, and posted $1,000 bail. He claims officers did not provide a warrant at the time of his detention while he was walking his dog.
