A battle of egos and power struggle between Sudan's military chief Gen. Abdul Fattah al-Burhan and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) head Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo has led to the killing of over 400 people in the past week. Both sides have agreed to a three-day truce, but the rivalry runs so deep that the chances of a permanent ceasefire without more bloodshed appear slim. The two generals have twice derailed the country's transition toward democracy, and the breakdown between them has brought significant damage and destruction to Sudan. The UN has called the humanitarian situation in Sudan "catastrophic."
