Artistic Endeavors: Sending Human Art to the Moon in 2024
Samuel Peralta, a Canadian physicist, artist, and entrepreneur, plans to send tens of thousands of artworks from artists around the world to the moon as part of the Lunar Codex project. The collection will be split across three launches over the next 18 months and aims to establish arts and culture for future lunar colonies. Peralta initially wanted to send his own works but expanded the project to include diverse contributions during the pandemic. The artworks will be miniaturized in nickel NanoFiche and will include various forms of art, such as paintings, sculptures, books, and poems. The Lunar Codex will be self-funded and is set to launch on private missions operated by SpaceX and United Launch Alliance.
