Legal experts have analyzed the 49-page indictment against former President Donald Trump, which includes 31 counts of unauthorized possession and willful retention of national defense documents, charges that fall under the Espionage Act. The six remaining counts involve Trump's alleged attempts to hinder investigators. The indictment does not mention the Presidential Record Act, and prosecutors have not asserted why Trump took the documents and tried to keep them. If convicted, Trump would face lower penalties than the maximum sentences. Experts said more could be revealed at trial.
