AI Hallucination Almost Triggered a U.S. Boarding of a Chinese Vessel
CNN reports that U.S. forces briefly considered boarding a China-flagged vessel in the Middle East based on AI-generated claims that the ship was carrying nuclear weapon components; the plan was scrapped after the faulty data was traced to a chatbot used by a special operations analyst. The incident underscores the risk of relying on AI for high-stakes military intelligence and decision-making, amid broader concerns about AI-driven errors in operations.
