Patriots roster moves keep coming after the 53-man deadline: waivers were claimed for Cameron Latu and Darius Muasau, a dozen players were added to the practice squad, and analysts are continuing to break down the initial roster as Vrabel and Wolf keep tweaking the group ahead of Week 1.
After preseason, New England must trim from 90 to 53 by 6 p.m. ET on Aug. 30, and this tracker will compile all moves—cuts, trades, waivers and injuries—highlighting up to 37 Patriots as the team approaches the 53-man deadline.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said Kayshon Boutte likely would have been inactive for Week 1 because New England’s wide‑receiver group is the deepest position on the roster. The Patriots traded Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh‑round pick, with Vrabel praising Boutte’s maturity and growth from last season. He also noted the WR room includes A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism, all expected to be on the 53-man roster, and that the trade helps both teams given Boutte’s place on the depth chart and Reed’s special‑teams value.
The Patriots’ contract negotiations with Christian Gonzalez remain unresolved, prompting hopes for a new deal, while the team’s Boutte trade to the Texans for Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick fuels debate over front-office decisions as training camp winds down.
Patriots camp notes: two interior offensive linemen signed (Darrian Dalcourt, Joe Michalski), Niko Lalos released, and Andrew Rupcich placed on injured reserve; Romeo Doubs is rising in the offense while Kayshon Boutte and other receivers push for roles in a deep WR room; the No. 3 running back spot is heating up with Jam Miller leading a rookie-veteran competition as roster ideas and takeaways circulate ahead of the preseason.
Patriots and Colts had a productive joint practice headlined by Drake Maye, with multiple reports highlighting Maye’s deep completions and explosive red-zone work. The day sparked a flood of training-camp content—blog notes, takeaways, transcripts, pressers, and camp recaps—while New England also added veterans Hassan Haskins and JaMycal Hasty to the backfield. Christian Gonzalez’s minor injury sidelined him briefly, and Maye isn’t expected to play in the upcoming preseason opener as the team opens a new training facility and readies for the August games.
