Metro-North train halts near Grand Central after passenger makes terroristic threat
A 33-year-old woman allegedly in emotional distress caused a chaotic scene on a Metro-North train approaching Grand Central Terminal on September 16, 2026. She reportedly told passengers, 'This will be your last day on Earth,' prompting the activation of the emergency cord. The train stopped before reaching the platform, leading some commuters to exit through emergency windows and walk along the tracks. MTA police escorted approximately 60 people to safety, while all 650 remaining passengers were accounted for. The woman, identified as Hannah Jane Santero, was taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation and charged with a felony terroristic threat and a misdemeanor threat of mass harm. No weapon was found, and service resumed shortly after, except for Track 110, which remained closed for investigation.
