Alabama Newspaper Publisher and Reporter Indicted for Disclosing Grand Jury Secrets
Sherry Ann Digmon, the publisher of a small South Alabama newspaper and a member of the Escambia County School Board, has been indicted on two counts of ethics violation for allegedly using her position for personal gain by selling ads in her publications. This comes just days after Digmon and a reporter from her newspaper were arrested for revealing grand jury evidence related to the use of COVID-19 funds in the school system. The arrests have sparked national attention, with the Committee to Protect Journalists calling for the charges to be dropped, stating that journalists should not be prosecuted for doing their jobs.
