Rome tightens security around Colosseum with 24/7 red-zone protections
Rome has declared the Colosseum area a 'red zone' with around-the-clock police and military patrols to curb crime and protect locals and tourists; the measure, tied to incidents such as youths firing fireworks at police near the Colosseum and linked to the Roma Colosseo metro station, will run through December 24 and extends security to nearby sites including Termini and St. Peter's Basilica.
