China Weekend Box Office: War Comedy Leads as Nolan's The Odyssey Debuts
Dirty Monkeys’ war comedy Once Upon a Time in the Middle East dominated the mainland China box office over Aug. 14–16 with RMB 477.9 million ($70.3 million), pushing its cumulative total to about $134.1 million. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey opened with $28.4 million in China (IMAX $19.3 million), the director’s biggest China opening in IMAX; All Wishes Come True! was third with $13.1 million, Spider-Man: Brand New Day fourth with $9.9 million, and To Your Island fifth with $2.6 million. Mainland China weekend gross reached $132.9 million; year-to-date totals sit at $3.79 billion, down 30.4% from 2025.
